Known as "La Isla",San Fernando is famed for
its saltworks. It had Tartesian, Phoenician and Carthaginian
origins.
Its Suazo Bridge, still stands from Roman times. The
traditional architecture is very peculiar, with facades
bearing wrought iron gates and barred windows.
San Fernando most significant monuments are:
The Pantheon of the Illustrios Sailors (c.18th),
The Iglesia Mayor and the church of Carmen (c.18th).
The Astronomical Observatory.
