Puerto Real is a city with a strong maritime past with
an important naval industry.
Its foundation is owed to the Catholic Monarchs and
it reaches the peak of its splendour in the 18th century
with a great artistic life, with film and theatre festivals,
photography and art competitons, poetry recitals, etc.
The churches of San Sebastián (c.16th), Victoria
(c.17th) and of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, figure among
many religious monuments.
This town lies within the Bay of Cádiz Nature
Reserve, rest and refreshment stop for flocks of migrating
birds. On the outskirts, you can visit the Canteras
Park, where there is a grotto housing an image of the
Virgin of Lourdes.
