ARCOS DE LA FRONTERA
It is about 20 minutes from Jerez and is the entrance
to the White Villages Route and half the village is
an imporbable -looking , vertically slashed rock high
above the River Guadalete.
Now Arcos is a true centre of tourist interest, one
of the most beautiful towns in Spain for its river,
its olive and orange trees and fertile orchards where
herds of bullfighting stock and beautiful horses roam.
It is beautiful also for the impresive Tajo canyon and
for the regal façades of its baroque and Renaissance
houses.
Is streets are narrow and there are arches in abundance,
sometimes serving as the exterior arches of the parish
churches , of which the Church of San Pedro and Santa
María is th em ost outstanding. Holy Week is
another integral part of Arcos .
It is with reason that it has been declared of National
Tourist Interest, involving as it does an unsurpassed
reproduction of the Passion and Death of Christ in the
steep, narrow and winding streets of the village where
the professionals stages barely fit in.At nearby La
Molinera lake you can practice such diverse sports as
hang-gliding and horseback riding or all sorts of water
sports.
