El Puerto de Santa María is situated in the centre
of the Bay of Cádiz. The foundation of the town
is attributed to the Atheniand warrior leader Menestheo,
who eas to be followed by Romans, Visigoths and Arabs.
The town was home of Columbus and the place where Juan
de la Cosa drew his Mapa Mundi.
The town's artistic and monumental patrimony is :
Castillo de San Marcos (12th century),
Iglesia Mayor Prioral (15th century),
Monasterio de la Victoria (16th century),
Convento de los Capuchinos (17th century),
the Palacios de Inblusqueta, Vizarrón, Casas
de los Carvajal, etc.
Close to the puerto Santa Maria is the Doña Blanca
archaeological site.
