Paterna Surroundings

Paterna is in the centre of the Cadiz province at the heart of the Bull's Route, some 360 feet above sea level.

You can get there by the A-393 secondary road from Utrera to Barbate, in the Guadalete basin, through the Salado de Paterna and in the natural region called Campiña de Jerez and Cádiz coast.

It is consisting basically of clay, marl and chalk, and has a landscape of low plateaux, plains and meadows.

Due to the intensive agriculture and de-forestry practised in the past Paterna is not surrounded by much vegetation. An exception to this is the High range and Cartagena, where there is a recreational area for visitors. It is the perfect setting for a day in the country and has complete picnic facilities.
